Cats and Hypertension.

** IS YOUR CAT OVER THE AGE OF 10?? WE ARE OFFERING A FREE BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK FOR YOUR CAT **

High blood pressure in cats, also known as feline hypertension, is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs in around 1 in 5 cats over 10 years of age.
This disease is treatable with medication, but 82% of senior cats don’t receive blood pressure checks.
Signs of feline hypertension are often invisible and unfortunately, many cats only show signs of hypertension after the disease starts to cause serious damage to their heart, brain, kidneys and eyes

Until the 10th of March – we are offering a FREE blood pressure reading for cats over the age of 10.
This can be performed at the same time as your cat’s booster, or at a separate appointment with a feline friendly nurse.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information where we will also be posting a series of videos to help understand feline hypertension

New ** Cat Nurse Clinics ** every Tuesday 10am – 3pm
Cat friendly nurse clinics held in our dedicated cats only consulting room, perfect for anxious or nervous felines. Treatments include nail clipping, blood pressure readings, post operative checks, Flea and Worming or monthly solensia injections.
Contact us for more information or to book an appointment.

Meet a member of the Eden Vets team

I graduated from Edinburgh vet school in 2020. Moving further south to be closer to family again I spent the first few years of my career working at a busy practice in Stoke-on-Trent.
This past year I took some time away from work to travel with my partner. But now that we’re back home again I’m very much looking forward to getting to know all of the lovely clients at Eden and meeting all of your wonderful fur-babies.
I love small animal practice and I have a special interest in surgery, especially soft tissue surgery.

Outside of work I dedicate a lot of time to the endless task of tiring out a Springer spaniel. My partner and I like to joke that we are building our own zoo as we also have a cat, 2 ferrets and 2 pet tarantulas as well!

Ambulance update

You may have seen our new Ambulance driving around Shavington and Sandbach.
We are now able to offer a brand-new service to help transport animals between our branch practices.

If your pet is having an operation performed at Shavington, but you are based closer to Sandbach then we will be able to provide complementary transport for your pet to and from Shavington. We are hoping to provide this service twice per week (days to be confirmed).

Should your pet have a consultation at Sandbach but then be required to travel to Shavington for further tests, then this will be £50 for stable patients or £100 if your pet requires 1-2-1 monitoring by a Veterinary Nurse during their transport.

The ambulance has fitted transport crates to ensure your pets safety during transport.

We hope this service will help owners transport their pets and take this added stress away.

Eden Vets Star Patient of the Month

Our star patient this morning is the adorable ‘Mr Darcy’.

Mr Darcy presented to vet Gemma Rose just before Christmas after his owners had noticed swellings in his neck. He was otherwise fit and healthy- eating and drinking normal with plenty of energy.

On examination, Gemma discovered very enlarged lymph nodes (glands) not only in his neck, but also in front of his shoulders and at the back of his hind limbs. This was worrying and warranted further investigations including fine needle aspirates and blood tests.

Unfortunately, the results confirmed Lymphoma – a type of cancer which travels in the blood and lymph nodes. After discussion into different treatment options, Mr Darcy’s owners elected to use chemotherapy to improve his life.

In pets, chemotherapy is used in certain cancers that respond well to this treatment; lymphoma being the main one. Chemotherapy is used to induce remission (reduce cancer to a non-detectable level) but will rarely cause a cure. Given Mr Darcy was otherwise very well, his owners wanted to give him the best chance. The most common side effects of this type of chemotherapy are tummy upsets and changes to the white blood cells (low levels).

Mr Darcy is now 9 weeks into his chemotherapy and is doing amazingly well. His lymph nodes have returned to a normal size, and he is tolerating his medication without any side effects. He loves coming to see us weekly. We hope he is one of the lucky patients where chemotherapy can cause remission for at least 12 months with some dogs remaining in remission for 18 – 24 months. He is such a brave little dog, and we look forward to seeing him and his dedicated owners each week.
