Vaccinations
Routine vaccinations aren’t just about protecting your cat or dog from serious (and often preventable) diseases like parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis and feline leukaemia — they’re also a vital part of keeping your pet healthy overall.
When you bring your pet in for their annual booster, it’s much more than a quick injection:
- We check their eyes, ears, teeth and skin
- Listen to their heart and lungs
- Monitor weight and body condition
- Spot early signs of dental or joint issues
- Discuss any changes you’ve noticed at home
That means we can often pick up health problems before they become more serious — giving your pet the best chance of staying happy and healthy for longer.
Not sure when your pet is due? Or would like more information on vaccinations, give us a call on 01270 439289 and we’ll check for you!

Meet a member of the Eden Vets team:
Eleanor Higgings – BVMS MRCVS
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Eleanor, one of our new first opinion vets.
Eleanor graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2022 and started work in a small rural practice in Cheshire for 3 years before moving to Eden. She loves the variety that comes from working as a GP vet but has a particular interest in dentistry.
Outside of work, Eleanor loves exploring with her dog Roger (a lovely one-eyed greyhound), walking, running and horse riding. When she isn’t outside, she’s normally found on the sofa with a slice of cake and a good book.
Eleanor will be working at our Shavington and Sandbach branches.

RADIOGRAPHY- X-RAYS
Should your pet need an x-ray, this is where they will be!
X-rays are predominantly used to assess bones; however, they are also useful to examine the chest and abdominal cavity. They are less sensitive than CT scans as they provide a single image in one plane rather than the 3D image provided by CT scans.
At Eden we have digital radiography, which means that x-rays taken directly transfer to our computer system, without the need to “develop” them in a more traditional way. This process means we receive x-ray images instantaneously which is important, especially for pets under a general anaesthetic where do not want to prolong the time they are asleep.
We also have a moveable tabletop which is also great for positioning patients, without the need to keep moving them. It also helps to save our backs!

Eden Vets Star Patient of the Month
Lenny the cocker spaniel is this month’s star patient!
He was internally referred to one of our surgeons, Georgina for investigation of a potential migrating foreign body!
Now is the time of year for grass seed foreign body reactions, these are most common around the face and limbs but can appear anywhere on the body. Spaniels are also over-represented due to their love for running through undergrowth on walks!
So, when Lenny presented with a worsening hindlimb swelling, that was the first thing on Georgina’s list to rule out! Lenny was admitted for several diagnostic tests, a CT scan to rule out other possible causes and an ultrasound scan over the swellings to try to identify the foreign body.
We were in luck! We found the offending grass seed on Ultrasound and Lenny was taken to surgery that day!
Lenny has since recovered, and his wounds healed. His owner is going to ensure he avoids long grass during the summer months so to reduce the chances of this happening again. Well done, Lenny!
Always check / groom your pets (esp. spaniels and those with thick fur between ears and paws) as grass awns like to lodge themselves in those places!
